Why Voodoo Love Songs ?
Voodoo has always been phantasmic to anyone. Even if Voodoo is only a
religion that clearly not deserve all the dark connotations connected to.
Just notice how much Rock Culture (and maybe Culture in general) owes to
Voodoo universe :
Romero's Zombies, Basquiat's Paintings, Hendrix solo on Voodoo Chile,
recently Walking Dead, a century ago Bela Lugosi… And all the seventies erotic
B movie cinema born following this kind of inspiration.
What about our everyday life too ! When every thing seems to go
wrong, how often are we thinking : " That's impossible ! Someone must have
cast a spell on me..."
What about "gris, gris", "come to me powder",
"sculpted figurines"…?
Even if we are used to rationality and trained to a realistic attitude,
we still invoke something superior and strange when we thought that
what's occurring is not normal.
That's why "Voodoo Love songs" is glimpse to this black culture
which is more present in our ethos that we are supposed to admit.
And here lays why the album is called : "Voodoo Love Songs" ;
because, in a way, we all love Voodoo.
